A gas smell, a suspected leak, or a tradesperson telling you to isolate the supply before they work on an appliance.

Location

The gas meter and isolation point is further up driveway 2 (the same gravel driveway as the water main), against the house, just before the gate — almost directly beneath the ensuite toilet window.

Isolation procedure hasn't been documented yet. Next time you're at the meter, check whether it's a quarter-turn lever valve (perpendicular to the pipe is closed) and note the exact motion. Update this section once confirmed — a wrong guess here is worse than no instruction at all.

If you smell gas: don't operate switches or open flames near the source, get clear of the area, and call your gas retailer's emergency line or 000 before attempting to isolate it yourself.
